I was born and raised in West Bend Iowa, and attended the Apostolic Christian Church, graduating from the West Bend high school in 1978. I went to college at Iowa Lakes Community College and earned a 2 yr degree in Criminal Justice. My first job was a patrolman for the Graettinger Police Department, in 1979, where I went thru the Academy. Then in 1980, I went to the Lake City Police Department. I left both these agencies in Good Standing with exceptional references. In 1982, I was hired by Hank Wallace as a Deputy Sheriff for Boone County. In 1988, I ran for Sheriff , winning my first election, and holding the office since then. 
I married Sandy Iben, from Ogden, in 1986. 
I had an instant family with
daughters Theresa and Brandy. In 1989, we were blessed with twins, Jesse
and Cassie.
Theresa graduated from Boone in 1997, and had joined the Boone
National Guard her junior year. She was deployed twice after the 9-11
tragedy. She served for 9 1/2 yrs. She was married in 2006 to Michael
DeWild, who is a career Army soldier. He has served many missions
overseas, and they are currently stationed in Oahu, Hawaii. December 2007
they blessed us with our first granddaugher, Jacquelyn.
Brandy graduated in 2001. Brandy joined the Air Force, April 2005, and was stationed at F.E. Warren
A.F.B in Wyoming in Special Security Forces. She was killed April 8, 2006
by a drunk driver.
 
Jesse and Cassie will graduate in May. Jesse is going to college to major in elementary education, and Cassie to major in interior design.We are members of Augustana Lutheran Church in Boone. I have been a member of the Boone Lions Club for 15 years, S.A.F.E.(Substance Abuse Free Environment), as an original member, Boone County E911 board, and Boone County Emergency Management.
